Our Founder, Mackline Kobusingye, was inspired to establish Vital Care Connect after surviving a life-threatening childbirth experience that transformed her perspective on maternal healthcare in Uganda.

In 2019, while in labour with her second son, Mackline experienced severe complications that nearly claimed both her life and that of her baby. She was first taken to a nearby clinic, only to discover that it lacked essential medical supplies and skilled health professionals needed to manage her condition. She was then referred to a hospital located three hours away, where she finally received the life-saving care that enabled both her and her baby to survive.

Reflecting on that experience, Mackline began asking a critical question: What happens to women who cannot access the care that saved her life?

She recognized that maternal mortality is not merely a medical challenge but a reflection of deeper systemic inequalities and social injustice. For many women in Uganda, childbirth remains a life-threatening experience due to preventable factors such as poverty, limited access to quality healthcare, and inadequate maternal health information and support.

Driven by this reality, Mackline co-founded Vital Care Connect, a social enterprise committed to removing barriers to safe motherhood. The organization delivers a comprehensive model of care by providing Ministry of Health-approved birth kits, fortified maternal nutrition, maternal health education, and psychosocial mentorship. Rather than waiting for mothers to seek assistance, Vital Care Connect reaches women directly through mobile outreach, SMS support, and door-to-door services, ensuring that essential maternal healthcare is accessible where it is needed most.
